Deidara was born in Iwagakure, the Village Hidden in the Stone, where he was a direct student of the Third Tsuchikage, ÅŒnoki. The master was known to be arrogant, stubborn and proud. At one point, however, after ÅŒnoki sees Gaara’s leadership and Naruto’s trajectory, he admits the mistakes he’s made along the way.
Although ÅŒnoki was often annoyed at Deidara – and even mocked his pupil’s explosive clay art, much to Deidara’s frustration – he also took great pride in his pupil’s growth and powers.
During his youth, he received praise for the clay sculptures he made in his training. But Deidara aimed higher. As a member of the Explosion Corps, he had the Explosion Release Kekkei genkai, a technique that allows the user to use explosive chakra to cause objects they come in contact with to explode. His objective was, then, to unite this ability to Iwagakure’s kinjutsu, a resource that makes it possible to knead chakra into substances.
Without measuring consequences to obtain it, the shinobi (ninja) violated the laws of his village and stole the kinjutsu (prohibited technique). With the union of the two techniques, Deidara was able to mold his explosive chakra into a clay with which he could build species of living explosives, of varying shapes and sizes, which could be used to hit opponents even at great distances, with the detonation being activated by Katsu command. After committing this crime, Deidara fled Iwagakure.
Your entry into Akatsuki
deidara
As a missing-nin (fugitive ninja), Deidara went on to help rebels from different countries, specializing his art and combat technique and becoming a kind of terrorist bomber. And it was exactly the fame he began to gain from his performance that caught the attention of the criminal organization Akatsuki.
On orders from Pain, leader of Akatsuki, members Sasori, Itachi Uchiha, and Kisame Hoshigaki set out in search of Deidara to recruit him into the group. When the missing-nin refused, Itachi decided to challenge him to combat, with the result deciding whether or not to join the new member. Deidara accepted, but was easily defeated by Itachi’s Sharingan and has since joined Akatsuki.
Having been defeated by Itachi and being aware that the Sharingan is more powerful than his own technique, his art, Deidara fueled a great hatred of Itachi and his brother Sasuke. During his time in Akatsuki, the missing-nin planned to take revenge on Itachi, even developing the C4 technique, with which he would be able to counter the older Uchiha’s Sharingan and kill him.
Deidara’s first partner in Akatsuki was Sasori, someone with whom the missing-nin shared a taste for art. A mixture of lonely childhood and a fascination with puppet theater motivated Sasori to transform himself into a kind of human puppet, equipping his body with weapons and other resources, which allowed him, for example, to control his opponents like puppets. For Sasori, art was something to be left for the future.
At one point in the story, the duo set out on a mission to capture Gaara and try to extract from him the Ichibi no Shukaku, also known as the One-Tail, since one of Akatsuki’s goals was to gather all the Tailed Beasts (Tailed Beasts) and use their powers to start wars. The plan was for the mercenary group to be called in and paid to stop those wars, which the villages didn’t know they were causing. This quest for reputation and money caused the financial collapse of several villages.
During Gaara’s capture, however, Deidara and Sasori were cornered and defeated by Kakashi Hatake and Naruto. Sasori died in the battle, and Deidara was maimed. Still, the confrontation caused the missing-nin to spark an interest in fighting Naruto, after realizing that he was indeed a jinchÅ«riki (bearer of one of the tailed beasts) of extraordinary power.
Tobi
deidara
The relationship between Deidara and Tobi couldn’t be more different from the one the missing-nin had with his former partner. Tobi’s constant banter annoyed Deidara to the point that, at certain times, they broke up during missions.
Still, they ended up fighting well together, helping each other in battles, even if they didn’t agree on who helped who or who was responsible for the victory. When the duo receives news that Orochimaru is dead, they decide to look for his killer, as they both wanted to have been responsible for ending the former Akatsuki member’s life. Upon encountering the one who killed Orochimaru, Sasuke Uchiha, Deidara engages in battle with the shinobi, while being assisted by Tobi.
